the music! the performance! the music! did i mention the music?! ha!

fela! is a MUST see musical, you'll laugh, cry and dance! i had the pleasure of going to the opening night at the sidney harman hall in washington, dc. what an experience it was. fela! is based on the events and life of the revolutionary nigerian composer and activist, fela kuti.

fela's music: african drum + highlife horns + jazz + cuban music + funk = afro beats

adesola osakalumi [fela], michelle williams [sandra] and cast put on a riveting show, from the amazing dancers to the awesome musicians... i was almost tempted to dance in the aisles! :) above is one of my favorite songs by fela, "water no get enemy". if you have a chance, definitely go see this amazing production while it is still in dc.

ethereal shades of grey

Monday, January 28, 2013

"even when the skies were gray, you would rub me on my back and say "baby it'll be okay", method man said it best in mary j. blidge's you're all i need. life is full of ups and downs. things may seem bleak, but there is always a silver lining, knowing that keeps me motivated to be better than i was yesterday. what a lovely cliché. LOL! seriously, we all need encouragement... stay encouraged!

it's starting to feel more like winter, with flurries of snow here and there, but the sun never fails me. these past few weekends have been beautiful!! i recently took a photography class at living social with douglas sonders [which was amazing!] and i felt this weather was a perfect setting to put my new camera and photography skills to work. obviously I didn't take the pictures of myself, but i set my settings, took a few test shots of my photographer and passed on the camera, the rest was magic. our shots came out great! a simple after brunch test shoot in the national harbor turned into a full-on glam session.

when i left home earlier in the day it felt a little warm [to me at least :)] hence, the sheer split maxi. never the less, i felt kute, so nothing much else mattered. ha! it was something very ethereal about this look... whimsical skirt, different shades of grey, curls flowing in the wind... it all came together, funny how that happens when you least expect it.
| fit |  joie off the shoulder cashmere sweater [sumn like'it here], zara sheer slit maxi [sumn like'it here], top shop booties, gunmetal vestal watch, and lemon spritz by q.r.s. nail polish [love LOVE this nail color!] and exhilarating lip color by stila

iconic vanity

Friday, January 25, 2013

i find the darnedest things while surfing the net :)  iconic invanity is a line made of perfectly tailored african fabrics embellished with intricate beading and bold colors.  featured in lagos fashion & design week 2012, creative director Nacy Nwadire, made sure each piece in the SS13 line was perfectly structured to flatter every woman's figure.  i am completely in love with each piece from the collection, especially the maxi dress accentuated with a plunging neckline and a high slit.  iconic invanity is currently only sold in lagos, nigeria.  i cant wait until her pieces are available in the states, until then... which piece do you admire most?

sanctuary inspiration

relocating is always difficult, uprooting from a place where you've been settled for so long.  but its also a blessing, change is ALWAYS good.  out with the old in with the new.

in moving back to DC, i've decided i want to change my bedroom aka my sanctuary a little bit.  i've always loved glamour for my bedroom, a soft color palette, dainty accents and tufted everything.

this time around i think i want to add pops of bright color, vintage accents and bolder accouterments.

after scouring the net for inspiration, i took to my virtual mood board and began to build my newly revamped sanctuary.  i cant wait for my vision to come to fruition!  i'll keep you guys updated!
